Vijay Vilas Palace

Vijay Vilas Palace was named for Maharao Shri Khengarji III, the Maharao of Kachchh. The palace’s construction was completed in 1929, having begun in 1920. Red sandstone was used to build the palace. It features every characteristic of Rajput architecture and heavily references the Orchha and Datia palace plans. The domed bastions at each corner, the pillar-supported central high dome, the Bengal domes on the sides, the windows with coloured glass, and the carved stone “jalis”. Shyamji Krishna Verma Smarak

On October 4, 1857, in the Gujarati town of Mandvi, in the Kachchh district, Shyamji Krishna Varma was born. He had a strong sense of patriotism and gave selflessly to the country, making him one of the most notable freedom fighters in Indian history. The Memorial’s goals are to honour Shyamji Krishna Varma’s contribution and to teach the next generation about those great Indians who gave their all to ensure their nation’s freedom. The memorial is open to all visitors 6 days a week.

Ship Building Yard

Mandvi Shipbuilding Yard is situated on the bank of the River Rukmavathi in the Gujarati town of Mandvi. Approximately 400 years old, the ship manufacturing yard of Mandvi bears witness to the town’s nautical history and is located at the confluence of the Rukmavathi River and the Arabian Sea. This yard most likely rang with the sound of hundreds of men at work in its prime. The shipbuilding yard had grown to the point that 400 vessels could be anchored and repaired in the eighteenth century. Mandvi ships were reaching England by this point in time.
